The project involved demolishing the existing buildings and constructing a new 1,726 sqm seven-bay industrial workshop fitted with specialist installations, including a spray booth and paint oven for commercial vehicle finishing. An additional two-storey office building houses training facilities, operational offices and wellness spaces, supporting Spectrum VR’s growth and future-proofing their operations.
Delivering this facility required overcoming a series of technical and logistical hurdles. The site’s steep gradient and proximity to a public footpath demanded a precise cut-and-fill exercise to create level platforms while avoiding costly off-site disposal. Retaining structures were installed to maintain site integrity and safeguard neighbouring land.
Additionally, the client’s limited experience with major construction projects meant clear guidance and collaboration were essential from day one, particularly in navigating planning approvals and technical decisions critical to operational functionality.
Our strategy focused on technical accuracy, cost certainty and collaborative delivery. Cut-and-fill earthworks combined with engineered retaining walls enabled us to optimise land use and protect adjacent boundaries. Working alongside Urban Edge Architects, we streamlined initial feasibility layouts and integrated specialist installations within a rationalised design to maximise efficiency across all workshop bays and staff areas.
Recognising the client’s reliance on professional support, we maintained transparent communication throughout design development, planning and execution, ensuring every decision aligned with budget, compliance and business objectives. Key building services were meticulously coordinated for performance and reliability, while finishes and materials reflected durability and brand quality.
